Burnishing

Burnishing tools are among the most efficient methods for producing extremely smooth and hardened surfaces. Controlled cold forming significantly reduces surface roughness. At the same time, surface hardness is improved, thereby extending the service life of the component. The result: optimum dimensional accuracy, high process reliability, and short processing times.

Compared to grinding, honing, or lapping, burnishing tools enable significantly faster and more cost-effective precision machining. The process can be easily integrated into existing turning processes and does not require any additional machines.

Two technologies – one goal

Improved interface

Depending on the material, geometry, and surface requirements, different tools are available for smoothing:

Diamond burnishing tools

  • Precise point contact
  • Minimal wear, surfaces below Rz < 1.0 μm.

Rolling tools

  • Fast processing
  • Robust application, surfaces down to Rz < 2.0 μm.
